Margarita

When I was young, about 19, the martini was my idea of sophistication. My first Bond film was Goldfinger, and Sean Connery’s Bond, and his fondness for martinis made an impression on me. I would order martinis when I took a girl out. One time I helped a girl move, and got sick to death on a combination of beer, martinis, and whatever else was available. As I got older I moved away from the martini, and I switched to Pimm’s Cup for a while. Now that I’ve reached retirement age I’ve switched to Margaritas as my cocktail of choice. I think of it primarily during the summer, but I don’t have a winter cocktail.

Here’s a recipe for a Patron Margarita that I found on the web.

1½ oz Patron Silver tequila
1 oz Patron Citronge
½ oz lime juice
½ oz lemon juice

Shake with ice, pour into salt-rimmed Margarita glass, add twist of lime.

I should add that I usually don’t do the salt-rimming or the twist. That depends on my mood. My wife prefers using the pre-packaged mixes. I think it may be the Citronge that she objects to. Citronge, I think, has a pronounced orange taste. It’s really the quality of the tequila that makes or breaks the Margarita. Use a good quality, 100% agave tequila. If you’re feeling really rich try it with a resposado or anejo tequila.
